Poem: Sacrifice

Do you need me to carve out my heart at the altar?
Will you lead me to the cliff with your secret hymns?
Would you ask me to crawl through a broken land, weeping?
And do you want me to cast my beliefs to the winds?
Well now, I might just give it a taste.
But consider your family; won’t they be disgraced?

Am I required to cancel the programs that form me?
Do you need me to cast off the bonds of distrust?
Will I have to take a chance on survival
under black wings of promises whispered in lust?
Well then, fine, if that’s how it must be.
I’ll accept your devotion to what you can’t see.

Would you hold up my heart as it pulsed through your fingers?
Would you wave my perspectives aside with a smile?
Might you pass me a tissue as I kneel in the rubble?
And are you primed to push me each step down the aisle?
Well, all right, I’ll do it for you.
If that’s what you’re asking, you can tear me in two.

Would you offer your finger to shut off my switches?
Could you tether your chains to my limitless skies?
Do you honestly think you’re the one to seduce me
with kisses and whispers of sapphire lies?
Well, okay, I’ll give you a go.
For the price of the succubus, escort me below.
