Celique – When Jalis was a younger woman, fresh to the Freeblades Guild and operating out of the Vorinsian port capital of Temera, she met a ship’s captain named Celique who was almost twice Jalis’s age. The two women quickly formed a close friendship which instilled in Jalis a fondness for the maritime life, though much of Celique’s time was spent sailing the western coasts of the Arkh while Jalis was busy with guild contracts. A couple of years passed by, and while Celique was out at sea, Jalis met Maros while he was visiting Temera on a contract to which Jalis was also assigned. By the end of the month-long contract, Jalis and Maros had formed a friendship as strong as the one she had with Celique (though the two could never be compared) and her love of travelling and increasing her knowledge and experience led h er to return with Maros to Himaera.
While Jalis sheltered in the abandoned fortress of Caer Valekha, she had a moment alone and found herself remembering Celique, wondering what had become of the beautiful and charismatic ship’s captain.
Ravlin Halastra – Ravlin is a merchant who lives in Alder’s Rest, a small hamlet a mile outside of Alder’s Folly. He is half-Sardayan. In respect of the Himaeran custom, he tends not to use his family name unless necessary, although his cousin Argali has no such inhibitions due to living in Brancosi Bay – the Himaeran capital is a cultural melting pot where many Arkhosians either permanently live or frequently visit.
Every month, Ravlin drives to Brancosi Bay to replenish his stock and visit his family. If Ravlin hadn’t already set off on such a visit, he might have driven Maros and Henwyn into the Deadlands. Being a close acquaintance of the Alder’s Folly freeblades, Ravlin recognised Leaf when she was in Brancosi Bay and offered her a ride home. Leaf didn’t mention that to Maros, nor did she mention other details of her trip to the Freeblades Guild Himaera Headquarters.
